In Sonic Jam, it can be accessed by "locking-on" Sonic 1 to Sonic & Knuckles. Locking on Sonic & Knuckles to another copy of Sonic & Knuckles will also load the game normally.īlue Sphere is also available in certain compilation games. Most other cartridges will allow the player to access only a single stage of the game, based on the cartridge's ROM header and the stage's code in the full Blue Sphere game. If the cartridge that is locked on to Sonic & Knuckles is the original Sonic the Hedgehog (as well as Sonic Classics due to the placement of Sonic 1 being at the 2 MB mark that the lock-on technology reads, which is only exhibited on real hardware, and any ROMs that share the same header as Sonic 1, such as early prototypes of Sonic the Hedgehog 2), then the full game of Blue Sphere is accessed with all stages. When any other Sega Mega Drive cartidge is inserted, background characters with a blue tint aren't shown to have animation on the title screen and the code of single Blue Sphere stage is shown. The scrolling text will be replaced by "Get Blue Spheres!". When the original Sonic the Hedgehog is locked on to the Sonic & Knuckles special cartridge, a screen appears with the Sonic & Knuckles logo, models of the characters Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Robotnik, and a line of scrolling text that says "No Way! From that point onward, I ran through the stage as per usual and it was perfect, because the segments I now had in front of me were: sphere-rings, rings-sphere, sphere-rings, and finally rings-sphere, allowing me to grab the final ring before the final sphere. So I started jumping among starred spheres in order to bypass it, basically turning left or right after the stage begins (one of these leads to a much longer route than the other, sorry, can't remember which one), jumping until I know I can turn left or right, then turning, and keeping on jumping until I found myself on sphere-free ground. What I did it this: I figured if the stage goes in a circle and has four segments: rings-sphere, then sphere-rings, then again rings-sphere, then sphere-rings (and I can't get the latter rings because I have all the blue spheres by this point), I had to bypass the first segment somehow.

Jump over four red spheres? Which ones? Because if all it takes is a couple of jumps, then my take on this level was more tedious than it needed to be.
